Rhythmic Gymnastics
When: 7:00pm – 8:30pm on Monday nights from October until April
Location: Compass Point Bible Church, Kerns Road, Burlington
Junior coach Julia teaches one to one.
Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation. This wonderful program helps our female-only gymnasts develop strength, flexibility and artistry. Our athletes learn together, but compete individually in one or more leveled routines to music, using a ball, rope, ribbon and hoop. Have a look at this training video of the rope routine on YouTube.
We train on Monday nights, during the fall and winter – and in the spring we take part in various competitions with other Special Olympics teams in the South Central region.
Rhythmic Gymnastics is not just about memorizing routines, even though that is needed – it is the gymnast’s movement, the apparatus handling, the musicality and the impact to the audience that makes the sport so much fun to learn and amazing to watch.
